Korean Inspired Skincare

When you think of skincare, what comes to mind?

It might be your favourite skincare brand, product, or a country that does it so well. That’s right, today we’re talking about Korean skincare.

Through a careful mix of natural ingredients, the use of technology and research, and suggested application processes, Korean skincare is innovative in its approach, and it’s safe to say that we’ve been inspired!

With all of our favourite influencers and celebrities using it, Korean skincare has quickly become a must-have for many.

Let’s delve into the science behind Korean skincare to find out why it’s such a talked about and loved subject.

The Science Behind Korean Skincare

In the past, it was believed in Korea that superficial appearance was linked to your inner health and care, something we still believe in today and talk about in our Psychology Of Beauty blog.

It’s no surprise then that the science behind Korean skincare is all about caring for your skin each step of the way.

Korean skincare makes use of technology and research to create products formulated to match the skin’s natural pH, promoting hydration and reducing irritation, and this is also supported by the ingredients used in it.

Ingredients

Ceramides are moisturising and help to hold the skin barrier together, while Centella Asiatica (Cica) is a herb that can reduce inflammation, redness, puffiness, and swelling.

Working alongside these ingredients are Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid, which help keep the skin’s barrier intact, reduce excess oil, and improve the skin’s flexibility and elasticity (because who doesn’t want flexible skin?)

Some more ingredients that may be used in Korean skincare are:

  • Snail Mucin: Has antibacterial properties and antioxidants that help to reduce signs of ageing like wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and sagging.
  •

  • Ginseng: Improves circulation and is considered one of the most potent anti-ageing ingredients available.
  •

  • Galactomyces: Brightens the skin.
  •

    Creation and Processes

The creation of Korean skincare involves processes that work with these ingredients:

  • Fermentation: While it may not sound great, this process is used to increase the potency of active ingredients, so trust us, it’s good.
  •

  • Microencapsulation: Microencapsulation technology helps to make sure that these active ingredients are delivered to the skin properly.
  •

  • Layering: Korean skincare encourages hydration throughout the day (we love to hear it,) and layering toners, essences, and moisturisers helps to achieve plump, dewy-looking skin.

  • Now, let’s talk about the Give Me products inspired by these ingredients, technologies, and processes:
