The Art of Exfoliation

From face exfoliation to body exfoliation, the art of exfoliation is a satisfying process.

Whether it’s an everyday face exfoliation or a shower-time body exfoliation, it’s a key part of keeping our skin healthy and glowing.

Before we get into products to use for exfoliation, let’s take a look at what exfoliation actually is and why it’s so important for keeping our skin happy.

What is Exfoliation?

Exfoliation is a lot more than just giving your skin a good clean, it benefits your skin in the long run.

When you exfoliate, you’re getting rid of dead skin cells and making room for new ones. This process is what helps retain your skin’s radiant, youthful complexion, rather than it looking dull and damaged.

It’s important to be exfoliating both your body and your face on a regular basis. As a rule of thumb, you should be exfoliating your face around three times a week (less if you have dry or sensitive skin,) and your body two to three times a week (again, less if you have dry or sensitive skin.)

The benefits of exfoliating include:

  • Improvement in skin tone, texture, and pigmentation.
  • Help with reducing acne.
  • Helps to remove tan when it’s time for it to come off.

How to Exfoliate Properly

When it comes to face exfoliation, it’s important to find a product that is gentle yet effective for a good exfoliation.

Our Witch Hazel Toner is a perfect example of this. Infused with Retinol, Witch Hazel, and Hyaluronic Acid, it refreshes, smoothes, and tones pores while giving a gentle exfoliation.

A product with slightly more exfoliation is our AHA Glycolic Glow & Hydrate Skin Tonic.

Tips for Exfoliating

We know you’re probably raring to get exfoliating now but before you do, here are a few tips to follow:

  • Be Gentle: Remember to be gentle when exfoliating, especially if you have sensitive skin. The last thing we want is irritated, angry skin.
  •

  • Avoid the Eye Area: The eye area includes delicate skin, so exfoliating here could be a bit too harsh on this area of skin.
  •

  • Massage Product: Massage your exfoliating product into your skin for 30-60 seconds using circular motions. This allows the product to really get in there and work its magic.
  •

  • Rinse Off: When you’re finished, rinse the product off with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel. This is a more gentle way to dry the skin rather than rubbing it after exfoliating.
  •

  • Follow with Moisturiser: Give your skin some hydration after exfoliation using a moisturiser like our Anti-Ageing Day Cream or Moisturising Body Soufflé.

  • If you’re not already exfoliating make sure to add this crucial step to your skincare routine. Happy exfoliating everyone!
